A groundbreaking ceremony for the West Falmouth Library’s restoration, renovation, and expansion project was held on July 15, which marked the 120th anniversary of the original building dedication in 1896.

The West Falmouth Library is an independent, nonprofit library that serves as a gathering place for the community. It offers educational, informational, and entertaining programs and services for all ages in its mission to support lifelong learning.

A new two-story addition will accommodate quiet reading areas, activity spaces, and an archives room. The addition will also make the Library fully accessible with an entrance from the parking lot, accessible elevator, accessible restrooms, and common stairwell. The project includes a renovation of the 1972 section of the building as well as a new deck and terrace that will complement the garden on the north side. The original, 1896 historic building will undergo extensive restoration and repair work while retaining its beautiful, historical character, which is treasured by all who visit.

The addition and renovations were designed by Brown Lindquist Fenuccio & Raber Architects Inc., an architectural firm based in Yarmouthport and Plymouth. The construction manager is Dellbrook | JK Scanlan. Construction is anticipated to begin in early fall.

The library continues to raise funds toward the project’s $2.9 million goal. For more information about the building project visit westfalmouthlibrary.org.
