Historic & Civic

Project: Eldredge Garage

Design Overview

Reconstruction of existing iconic 1920’s Gas Station Building in the Town of Chatham as a Welcome Center.

Replication of Period Details and scale of the existing building while following the requirements of the current modern energy conservation code.

Welcome Center includes a large Public Lobby space that will include exhibits of the Historic Eldredge Family’s evolution of local transportation services. Public access to phone charging stations and restrooms are available as well.

The site serves as municipal parking with eight E.V. Charging Stations. A replica of a historic gas pump is mounted adjacent to the new building. A working replica air pump for bicycle tires is located nearby.

Design & Site Considerations:

Historically important town owned parcel of land in need of improvements.

Municipal Parking Area set back from the street edge and buffered by vegetation.

New building meeting current building codes while maintaining the character of the historic structure.

A handicapped accessible site and building available for public use, celebrating the site’s rich history.
