Historic & Civic
Project: Sandwich Town Hall
Design Overview:
- Redevelopment of an existing ±16,000sf former bank building to consolidate many of the Town’s various departments which had previously occupied 3 separate buildings scattered throughout the Town.
- The prominent structure situated on Old Kings Highway (Route 6a) and at the edge of historic Sandwich Village was an ideal location for the new consolidated Town offices.
- A complete gut renovation of the building’s main level consisting of ±8,000sf as well as ±8,000sf for lower level.
- The fully subterranean lower level was opened up and provided with natural light through the addition of a large sunken courtyard with stair access to grade and an additional small window light well. These design features infused an abundance of natural light making the lower level much more conducive for offices and meeting spaces.
- Space planning and departmental layout were driven by frequency of customer engagement with the most frequented departments being front and center upon entering the building.
- The entire facility was ungraded to provide full accessibility to all departments and areas of the building.
- Interior finish palettes and materials were selected to promote a fresh and bright customer experience which was further enhanced by large custom formatted photography from Sandwiches unique natural and historical landscape.
- The building’s lighting and HVAC systems were upgraded for improved efficiency and control through a Building Management System (BMS).
- The site was improved to better accommodate customer more parking as well as the numerous Town vehicles which remain on site off hours.
