Residential

Project: Private Residence – Falmouth

Catalyst designed an extensive renovation for this 6,700 square foot waterfront home in North Falmouth, MA. The home’s entry and interior stairs were dramatically reconfigured along with the addition of a 20-foot multi-panel sliding door opposite the entrance to provide sweeping ocean views for visitors as they approach and enter the house. The entire first floor was reconfigured to provide an open floor plan, connecting the living room, dining area and kitchen, all with panoramic ocean views.

The new stairway is the nucleus of the design, connecting the upper-level bedrooms with the first floor and new basement living spaces. Glass guardrails allow glimpses of the home’s interior spaces and beyond to the sea as you move up and down the stairs.

The basement was finished to yield an additional 1,800 feet of floor area which includes a large family room with full bathroom, a fitness room and a pool changing area with a full bathroom, dedicated laundry and infrared sauna.

The home’s exterior was improved with architectural modifications to existing rooflines, dormers, and trim. New natural Alaskan yellow cedar shingles were applied to the exterior walls and roof with copper gutters and downspouts to complete the transformation.

The project has been featured in the 2024 Cape & Islands Design Guide.
