Project: Private Residence Scituate

This new home includes four bedrooms and five bathrooms, on four levels of living, plus a widows walk with 360 degree views and a three car garage. The Owner wanted to maximize size and height on a very challenging site to take advantage of views of the ocean up the street. They also wanted a modern interpretation of New England shingle style design and quickly landed on the octagonal turret design for the southeast corner of the home.

The site was very small for a home of this size and complexity and in addition during excavation it was revealed that the soils in a portion of the site were inadequate so we also had to employ five helical piers below one corner of the home.

The main living level was elevated to 1-story above grade, which allowed for a two car garage facing the street and a bonus garage on the side at the lower level. The Ground floor level contains a foyer, mudroom closet, TV room, the home office, and a guest bedroom. Stairs lead down to the finished basement and up to the main living level and an elevator serves all four floors as well. The 1st floor, or main living level, includes the living room and dining room, which are open to the kitchen. Behind the kitchen is a butler’s pantry that has a hidden door which serves as a secondary entrance to the primary bedroom suite. There is also a spacious deck off of the dining room that has great views of the ocean to the southeast and marsh to the north. The “L” shaped stair continues to the 2nd floor (or third level) family room and bourbon bar. On the back side of the house there is a small covered deck and two more bedrooms which face the marsh.
